North Segganwell & South Segganwell

The Segganwell Cottages were originally used to house estate workers and in 1891 a total of fourteen people lived here! William Kirkland (an Assistant Shepherd), his wife and family of four lived in North Segganwell (two of his sons worked as Gardeners on the estate); in South Segganwell lived Thomas Davidson (the House Carter), his wife and six children.

Nowadays, each cottage can sleep up to 4 people. The Segganwell Cottages are situated right on the beach, overlooking the Island of Arran, with the stream from the gorge running past. It is a location that will take your breath away, if of course climbing down the 126 stairs to reach them has not already done so!

Each cottage comprises a sitting room with log-burning stove, shower-room with W.C., kitchen and bedroom. The bedroom consists of a double bed, along with a set of bunk-beds built into a recess.

Please note : As the Segganwell Cottages can only be reached by a steep stairway of over 100 steps they are not suitable for those with impaired mobility.
